Alternative paths – firewalking
By Jesper Andersen
Okay, we all need a mental kick in the pants, but is it really necessary to firewalk barefoot over embers several hundred degrees hot to get it? So.dk went firewalking in Copenhagen.
It's a cold and rainy October evening in Copenhagen. The cold isn't what interests me most at this particular moment. It's more the six-metre-long stretch of red-hot embers in front of me which I'm about to stroll across – completely convinced that it won't injure me, I tell myself. The 400 or so people around me are sure. The ones on my side who are chanting together with clenched fists and determination written all over their faces. And on the other side, those who have already done the walk – some of them several times – stand there cheering and doing "high fives" and shouting at the top of their lungs. What on Earth and I doing here?
